COMPLIMENTS: Welcomed or Not?

There are times Nikki and I go to events and I see people “wreckless eyeballing” and whispering amongst their friends.  I can only imagine what they are thinking and saying.  It doesn’t bother me one bit.  Want to know why?  ‘Cause she’s leaving with me! J  In those situations I smile and might even give the onlookers a wink to let them know… “I see you lookin’ witcha lookin’ azz”…haha!  I’m laughing but very serious.  I find it complimentary and take no offense when others find my sweets attractive - as long as they remain respectful.   Now if it goes any further than a glance and crosses that fine line into disrespect, then Brandy off ‘da block might join the party...(KAPOW!)  I want Nikki to look good, feel good, and know that it’s all good when we are in the midst of others.  I walk a little taller, smile a little wider and give that infamous nod that says... “Thank you, thank you, thank you… you’re far too kind” (in my Jay-Z voice). I often kid with her before leaving the house, depending on what she decides to wear, if she’s trying to get me into an altercation or something.

So, when someone is looking at your significant other or may even pay them a compliment, does it make you ‘feel some kinda way?’  If you get that feeling in your chest, does that mean you’re insecure and possessive?  When are too many compliments too much attention?

  1. I am in agreeance with you, it depends on the actions of others and their behavior. Who wouldn't like someone else to eye their candy? What a great compliment to receive for you and your partner. It does make you walk taller and stick those shoulders a little higher, there is nothing wrong with it at all!!!

  2. As long as they keep it respectful, it is such a compliment. My husband especially loves to see me admire me from across the room and he often makes me laugh by quoting the line from The Five Heartbeats, "Every night I have to fight to prove my love!" LOL.

  3. for myself, I have been in this situation a few times, I'm like you. I don't mind them looking with their looking azz, lol or even going far as the compliments we welcome them. But, when it comes to them flirting, and other disrespectful actions, I will feel some type of way. Just be respectful if you already know this someone you saw is involved with someone, find someone else to adore...who isn't. I don't believe you are being insecure or possessive, you are just demanding the respect you deserve with your lady. :)

  4. I get a kick out of others eyeballing my baby. There isn't a woman alive that threatens me. If someone crosses the line into disrespect, then I expect my baby to handle it just as I would if someone attempted to disrespect her. My commitment is with her and no one else. We both handle our business on that front. I say look on. Hell, I'd look at that fine specimen of a woman too.:)

  5. I just had this dicussion the other day. We were out and this lady was really looking hard. I was like ok once, twice but she is going a little too far. I had to say, "Really Lady, I'm right here!" She said, I wasn't looking at him, I was looking at you." I knew my hair was cute that day (lbvs). If you we are holding hands, show respect for both. I enjoy when others compliments mines. I enjoy receiving compliments as well as giving them out. It does make me walk taller and appreciate my special someone a little bit more. But don't walk up talking about, Hey Cuz!, when I have not seen you in any family photos. Thanks for sharing.
